“Pre-Fall 2016 celebrates the quiet strength of poet, writer and artist Etel Adnan. We found inspiration in her beautiful sense of color and contrast as well as her travels and multicultural spirit. We played with pattern, proportion and fabric — embroidered sequins; color-blocked Chantilly lace — and kept the mood and silhouettes relaxed accessories follow suit, including the season’s camera bag, which nods to Adnan’s years as a newspaper editor.” — Tory Burch
Silhouettes: With relaxed silhouettes and new proportions, the collection epitomizes femininity. Tailored suits, straight pants and A-line skirts are balanced by easy dresses, caftans and an off-the-shoulder look that accentuates the neckline. Bomber jackets, ribbed knits and tanks add a sporty element, while elegant, fluid eveningwear highlights the season’s laidback mood.
Palette: Bright colors and warm neutrals complement each other, mixing teal, sky blue, navy, maroon, burnt orange and red with ivory, sand and olive.
Prints & Patterns: Adnan’s landscapes translate into abstract color-blocking, striations and a sun motif, while papyrus plants from her native Lebanon inspire graphic floral prints and patterns with a geometric edge.
Fabrications: Light, fluid fabrics — cotton, Chantilly lace, soft crêpe de chine and a fine crochet— are given added dimension with sequined, appliqué and embroidered details. Lace is done in new ways colorblocked, pieced and layered.
Accessories: The inspiration is carried through to accessories, from stripe details on heels and floral motifs hand-painted or appliquéd on wedges to geometric shapes on earrings and pendants. Graphic hobos and camera bags with leather patchwork and appliqué round out the collection.
