A Japanese Odyssey
TUMI travels to the intriguing country of Japan for Fall/Winter 2016, an island nation where tradition and modernity share space. The Land of the Rising Sun plays muse to TUMI’s Fall/Winter 2016 collection, resulting in a stunning line up of luxury travel and lifestyle accessories for the Global Citizen. While Japan thrives in charming contrasts of heritage and contemporary, harmony – or the Japanese philosophy of wa – defines the seasonal collection, with pieces dipped into a rich color palette rooted in nature.

Contemplative Cool

Japanese kanji brushstrokes are reinterpreted into a new character print for this season’s Alpha Bravo, Tegra-Lite® and Sinclair assortments. The logographic characters that are the core of the Japanese vocabulary have received an abstract treatment, refreshing the designs with a freethinking flow of energy and expression.

The dark, inky Smoke Character Print is put on display in the Kirtland International Expandable Carry-On (222460), Grissom Travel Satchel (222358) and Riley Kit (222391) from the utilitarian cool Alpha Bravo line. The classics – Alpha Large (119217) and Small (119215) Tech Wallets, Slim Card Case (119259) and Gusseted Card Case with ID (119256) – receive an update in the style department as well, combining TUMI’s signature ballistic nylon, sleek design and refined character print for essentials that are both visually arresting and immediately resonant.

With the new print and its fluid strokes, the Tegra-Lite® International Carry-On (28820) and Large Trip Packing Case (28827) gets a chic lift that feels fresh and modern, yet suitably sophisticated for the business traveler. In Sinclair, the Character Print gives a sheen of well-heeled glamour to the totes and SLGs including the Camila Tote (79392), upping the luxury element of the otherwise dressed-down aesthetic.

Nature’s Best Prints

Nature is reflected in a mix of bold prints and rich jewel hues that adorn the Astor, Tahoe, V3 and Voyageur collections, fitting the here-and-now style habits of the cool, urban Global Citizen. The new Fukuro print – a charming design inspired by the feather coloring of Japanese owls – which features on the Osborne 4-Wheeled International Leather Carry-On (93060) and Dorilton Slim Flap Leather Brief (93231) from the premium Astor range is a nice departure from the muted colors that traditionally follow the season. The energetic Tahoe collection is refreshed with cool natural tones, as the Linden International 2-Wheeled Carry-On (79820), Grove Day Duffel (79814) and new Barton Roll Top Backpack (79818) appear in Forest Print.

TUMI debuts a stunning new innovation in luxury travel with its lightest luggage collection ever, V3. The hardside cases feature a sharp, stylish aesthetic, contoured design and technical superiority, all of which combines for an overall sense of flawless functionality. The International Carry-On (228060), Short Trip Packing Case (228064) and Extended Trip Packing Case (228069) come in Waterfall Stripe reminiscent of transparent watercolor paints on rice paper, and weighs in at a light 9.25 pounds or 6.3 pounds depending on the size.

This season, Voyageur ups the ante with creative takes on florals and camo. One of the central prints in the collection, Indigo Floral, conjures up soft, lush images of Japan’s famed cherry blossoms in bloom. The seasonal
print appears on the new Large (494766) and Small (494762) M-Tote, Daniella Small Backpack (484720) and Tristen Crossbody (484704). Pine Floral, a gunmetal backdrop swirled with emerald green, is a feminine and abstract take on a camo print, adding a mod, graphic look to the classic Calais Backpack (484707) and Luanda Flight Bag (484783) for effortlessly cool looks perfect for chillier fall days.

The Art of Craft

The Japanese theme flows into the accessories assortment, with the addition of origami and fringe animal key fobs. The Origami Airplane (14766), Kite (14767) and Boat (14768) key rings call to mind the artisanship of handcrafted paper origami, while the Fringe Owl (14769), Fringe Dog (14770) and Fringe Fish (14771) lend an artistic, cultural element to the range.
